What will be covered in the training?

Week 1 > Discover your research idea

Selection of a topic of interest for your meta-analysis. You will be able to pose a specific research question or problem.
Formation of collaborative work groups around related thematic areas. This will allow the coordinated development of several articles in the same field.
Determination of the scope and design of the meta-analysis based on your research question. Options such as meta-analysis of clinical trials, observational studies, cohort studies, etc. will be analyzed.
Preparation of a preliminary protocol describing the objectives, methods and proposed analysis plan.
Initial bibliographic consultation.
Individual consulting to optimize your conceptual design.

Week 2 > Mastering study selection and screening

Practical sessions on advanced search strategies in biomedical databases such as PubMed.
Application of Boolean operators, controlled keywords, filtering by date, language, type of document, etc.
Replication of the searches to evaluate their reproducibility.
Establishment of clear eligibility criteria based on PICOS (population, intervention, comparison, outcomes, design).
Learning techniques to speed up the exclusion of irrelevant studies, such as quick review of abstracts.
Practical session applying the knowledge.

Week 3 > Extract data and combine results efficiently

Identify and prioritize the key variables to be extracted from each study.
Training in fast focused reading techniques.
Practical data extraction sessions following standardized formats.
Know strategies for pooling and synthesizing results from multiple studies such as relative risks, mean differences, etc.
Master the Review Manager software to perform statistical analysis of data.
Learn methods for heterogeneity assessment and subgroup analysis.
Receive individual feedback on quality of extracted data.

Week 4 > Write a flawless article

Receive tips for an engaging introduction that accurately contextualizes the research question.
Learn how to master the methodological section in a flexible but complete format.
Training in fluent and accurate writing of the results section, respecting PRISMA reporting guidelines.
Acquire skills to include tables and figures in a clear, concise and coherent way with the text.
Practical interpretive discussion sessions highlighting the importance and novelty of findings versus previous evidence.
Style, format and writing recommendations to suit specific magazines.
Individualized feedback on manuscript drafts.

Week 5 > Publish in a scientific journal

Tips for selecting journals according to the scope of the study and optimizing the probability of acceptance.
Training in preparation of cover letters and adjustment of manuscripts according to editorial instructions.
Peer review process simulations: frequent comments, how to strengthen contributions.
Skills to elaborate detailed responses to reviewers' criticisms that improve the article.
Practical discussion sessions on a real case of evaluation by editors and reviewers.
Support in manuscript submission procedures.
